The British want to turn away from Trump's America

The results of a new poll show that British voters prefer trade relations with the European Union to the United States and want to distance themselves from the United States during the presidency of Donald Trump.

The poll, conducted using the "MRP" method of almost 15,000 voters and commissioned by the YouGov Institute and the "Best for Britain" think tank, showed that more voters in England, Scotland and Wales support closer cooperation with the European Union than transatlantic trade relations with Washington. The MRP technique uses more data to poll at the local level.

Even in the constituency of Nigel Farage, leader of the far-right Reform Party, more voters think Britain would be better off trading with its European neighbors than with the US under Donald Trump, an ally of Farage's party leader.

A recent poll found that 46% of Britons said their country should priorities trading with the EU, while only 21% favored closer trade ties with the US.

The results came as Rachel Reeves, Chancellor of the Exchequer told the Observer newspaper on Sunday that Brexit had damaged the UK economy and she was determined to restore some of the lost GDP by easing trade pressures on small businesses.
