South Korea's impeached president finally appears in court

Yoon's lawyer said he appeared in court on Saturday to hear a request from investigators to extend his detention, according to Reuters.

The impeached president, who has refused to resign, is attending the hearing to counter the request from investigators.

Investigators requested on Friday to extend Yoon's detention by 20 days. He has refused to speak to investigators and has been held at a Seoul detention center since his arrest.

A crowd of Yoon's supporters blocked the entrance to the Seoul Western District Court where the hearing began, and police tried to push back the line of Yoon's supporters. A decision on whether to extend his detention is expected to be made on coming days.

Television stations showed a convoy of dozens of police cars and motorbikes escorting Yoon from the detention center to the courthouse.
