World Jewish Congress: Israel losing the battle of narratives

The regional head of the World Jewish Congress has warned about the collapse of Israel’s position in Western media and public opinion, stating that Tel Aviv is “repeatedly losing ground” in the face of a growing wave of opposing narratives.

Sylvan Adams, head of the World Jewish Congress in the Middle East, acknowledged a “real crisis” in the battle of narratives and propaganda, noting that Israel has visibly ceded the media battlefield internationally, particularly within Western societies.

The news outlet Shihab reported today (Sunday) that Adams emphasized in recent interviews that following the October 7 attacks, there has been a “significant decline in public support” for Israel, describing this trend as concerning. According to him, it stems from a wave of “anti-Israel propaganda” that has managed to establish itself in public discourse across the United States and Europe.

Expressing surprise at public opinion trends in North America, Adams said: “Honestly, I didn’t expect this level of hostility to still exist. October 7 didn’t create these sentiments; it just made them visible.”

He added that some anti-Israel behaviors and slogans recall “an atmosphere not experienced since the 1930s.”

According to Adams, this trend is not limited to a single political current but is “observable across a broad spectrum of groups and parties in the United States” and has continued without sufficient condemnation. He described this development as a “major challenge” for Israel’s public diplomacy apparatus.
