Four new suspects arrested in Louvre Museum heist
The Paris Prosecutor’s Office told CNN that police have arrested four individuals on suspicion of involvement in the Louvre heist.
According to a statement by Paris Prosecutor Laure Beccuau, two men aged 38 and 39 and two women aged 31 and 40, all residents of Paris, were taken into custody.
She added that these new suspects bring the total to eight, following the arrest of four others in late October. The prosecutor did not provide further details regarding the possible charges against the newly arrested individuals.
It is reported that one of the suspects is believed to be the fourth member of the criminal gang responsible for the theft. Three of the suspects arrested in October were charged with organized theft, while the fourth— a woman— was charged with aiding and abetting.
The heist first made global headlines on October 18, when thieves targeted the Apollo Gallery on the upper floor of the Louvre, where France’s royal jewels are displayed. They reportedly used a ladder mounted on a truck to access the gallery through a window.
