The Ministry of Health in Gaza has reported 6,000 cases of amputation in the region following Israel’s two-year war against Gaza.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, so far 6,000 amputations have been recorded, all of which require urgent and long-term rehabilitation programs.

Al Jazeera reported that, based on the Ministry of Health’s data, 25 percent of the cases are children and 12.7 percent are women.

The Ministry further stated that the lack of medical facilities and assistive devices has intensified the suffering of those affected by amputations and has created a critical humanitarian situation for them and their families.

The Ministry emphasized the urgent need for rehabilitation services and psychosocial support, especially for children who have faced permanent disabilities at a young age.

The Ministry called on all international and humanitarian organizations to increase their efforts to meet the needs of these groups and provide necessary care to adequately respond to the scale of the humanitarian disaster in Gaza.

According to data from agencies dealing with persons with disabilities, 8,700 cases of permanent disability have been recorded, including:

  • 4,800 amputations
  • 1,200 cases of paralysis
  • 1,200 cases of blindness
  • 1,500 other disabilities, such as speech, hearing impairments, and severe burn-related disabilities.

This alarming rate reflects Israel’s use of highly destructive weapons, including cluster munitions, heavy explosives, and missiles fired into densely populated areas, causing amputations, severe injuries, and traumatic brain and sensory damage. These methods are part of a deliberate policy to maximize physical and psychological suffering among civilians.

The Israeli army has systematically used excessive force and highly destructive weapons to maximize deaths and injuries, resulting in permanent disabilities and severe physical and psychological suffering for thousands of Palestinians. This is part of Israel’s systematic destructive policy, which is an integral component of the ongoing genocidal crimes
