Trump faces loud boos during NFL game appearance

Donald Trump was booed by sections of the crowd as he attended a regular-season NFL game — becoming the first sitting U.S. president in 47 years to appear at such an event.

According to the Associated Press, the Detroit Lions defeated the Washington Commanders 44–22 during the game.

The American news agency reported that late in the first half, when Trump’s image appeared on the stadium’s big screen — showing him seated alongside House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) — some spectators began to boo. The booing reportedly intensified at halftime, when his presence was officially announced.

Even as the Republican president took part in a halftime ceremony reading the oath of enlistment for a group of U.S. military recruits, boos continued to echo throughout the stadium.

Trump left the venue before the game ended.

Citing ESPN, AP added that a White House official had told the owners of the Commanders that Trump wanted the team’s new stadium to be named after him.

It is worth noting that Trump was also booed earlier this year, in mid-September, when he attended the men’s U.S. Open tennis finals in New York.

Recent polls show that Trump’s approval rating has dropped to 40%, while disapproval has risen to 57%, according to the latest Reuters/Ipsos survey.
