Gaza becomes the world’s capital of child amputations

The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced on Sunday that it is launching an international fundraising campaign to support a special relief fund aimed at assisting amputee children and rebuilding Gaza’s shattered rehabilitation system.

According to the ministry, the relentless Israeli attacks have left over 170,000 people wounded, with about one in four requiring mid- to long-term rehabilitation care.

Dr. Majed Abu Ramadan, Minister of Health of the Palestinian Authority, said the ministry is committed to rebuilding a comprehensive rehabilitation system capable of meeting the needs of the injured and ensuring their right to sustainable medical and physical recovery services.

Abu Ramadan called on all domestic and international health organizations to contribute and cooperate in this effort.

Reports indicate that Gaza is currently facing an extreme shortage of medical staff and equipment. Only eight prosthetics specialists remain in the Strip, operating with very limited capacity. Furthermore, over two-thirds of rehabilitation centers have been either destroyed or completely shut down due to the ongoing war.
