Dismissed Israeli military prosecutor transferred to hospital
Channel 12 of Israeli television announced that Major General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, the former Military Advocate General, was hospitalized after an apparent overdose of medication.
The Hebrew-language media outlet suggested that she may have attempted suicide.
According to the Hebrew network Kan, after an initial report was received indicating that Yerushalmi had taken an excessive dose of medication, emergency teams were dispatched to her home, where she received initial medical treatment before being transferred to the hospital.
Israeli media stated that the first report received by emergency services from Yerushalmi’s residence early this morning mentioned an overdose of medication.
On Friday, an Israeli court decided to change Yerushalmi’s detention status — she is suspected of involvement in leaking sensitive information about the Sde Teiman prison case and the torture of Palestinian detainees there — to 10 days of house arrest.
According to the court ruling, Yerushalmi may only leave her home to visit her defense attorney’s office and must notify authorities in advance. However, she is prohibited from contacting other suspects in the case for 55 days.
Meanwhile, Yerushalmi’s mobile phone was found by an Israeli citizen swimming off Tzuk Beach in Tel Aviv, where it was discovered on the seabed by chance.
After the phone was handed over to Israeli police, it was confirmed to belong to her and was found exactly in the area where she was last seen before disappearing last week.
According to Kan, this case continues to attract significant media attention due to Yerushalmi’s prominence as one of the Israeli army’s top legal figures and her leadership of the Military Advocate General’s office during a critical period of the ongoing war. The investigation has taken on political and media dimensions beyond the mere suspicion of an information leak.
Recently, Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s Minister of National Security, announced Yerushalmi’s dismissal as part of an investigation into the leak of a video showing Israeli soldiers assaulting a Palestinian prisoner at a military detention center in 2024.
Earlier, the Israeli army had stated that Yerushalmi resigned from her position amid an internal probe into the abuse of a Palestinian detainee at the notorious Sde Teiman prison, located in the occupied territories.
