Araghchi: Any possible negotiation with the U.S. would only concern the nuclear issue
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Araghchi said two French spies had been granted Islamic clemency.
He explained that these French nationals had been convicted of espionage, adding, “Last night, the Judiciary announced that these two individuals were included under Islamic clemency and have been released.”
Regarding the case of Mahdieh Esfandiari, an Iranian citizen detained in France, the foreign minister said: “Ms. Esfandiari is now free and currently at the Iranian embassy. God willing, she will return to the country after her court proceedings conclude.”
The top diplomat went on to address the issue of negotiations with the U.S., noting: “Missile and regional topics have always been part of our broader discussions, and our stance on them has consistently been clear.”
He reiterated, “If any negotiations are to take place, they will only concern the nuclear issue. At present, there are no plans for talks that would require a mediator or intermediary.”
In response to a question about Iran-Oman discussions and the recent visit of Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, to Muscat, Araghchi said: “Takht-Ravanchi traveled to Oman for regular political consultations, which are held every six months alternately in Tehran and Muscat.”
