The Deputy Minister of Justice for Human Rights and International Affairs announced that seven Iranian nationals imprisoned in the Republic of Armenia have been transferred to Iran.

Asghar Jalalian, Deputy Minister of Justice for Human Rights and International Affairs, reported the release and transfer of seven Iranians detained in Armenia, stating:

“Following the recent visit of Iran’s Minister of Justice to Armenia and his meeting with the Armenian Minister of Justice, these individuals were transferred to Iran to serve the remainder of their sentences.”

The head of the Ministry of Justice’s Committee for the Transfer of Convicted Persons praised the constructive cooperation of Armenia’s Ministry of Justice and added:

“Under the agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons between the two countries, a total of 24 Iranian inmates have been transferred from Armenia to Iran this year in two phases.”

Jalalian noted that most Iranian citizens imprisoned abroad—particularly in neighboring countries—have been convicted of drug trafficking or carrying prohibited pills.

He emphasized: “A lack of awareness about strict laws in other countries, as well as carrying packages without knowing their contents, often leads to the arrest and long-term imprisonment of some of our compatriots. Travelers are strongly advised to familiarize themselves with the laws of their destination countries and to strictly observe all rules and regulations.”
