Araghchi: U.S. excessive demands prevented a nuclear agreement
Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, the Iranian Foreign Minister, arrived in Mashhad on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, to attend the second Regional Diplomacy Conference.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the conference, Araghchi said:
“Through intermediaries, the Americans have reached out to us. Iran’s position is clear: the Islamic Republic is a nation of peace and diplomacy. We have always shown our commitment to diplomacy, but that does not mean we will compromise on the rights of the Iranian people.”
He continued: “Wherever the country’s interests can be achieved through diplomacy, we will spare no effort. However, the other side has repeatedly proven that it is not committed to diplomacy.”
Referring to previous negotiation experiences, Araghchi added: “This year, after five rounds of talks, the United States joined Israel’s military aggression against Iran. Later in New York, there was once again an opportunity for an agreement — but once more, due to the Americans’ excessive demands, the negotiations failed to reach a conclusion.”
