Hannibal Gaddafi, the son of late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and a suspect in the kidnapping case of Imam Musa al-Sadr, was released today on bail.

According to Al-Quds Al-Arabi, Judge Zaher Hamadeh, who is overseeing the investigation into the disappearance of Imam Musa al-Sadr, ordered Hannibal Gaddafi’s release on bail set at 11 million U.S. dollars.

Under the court’s decision, Hannibal Gaddafi remains under a travel ban.

The report notes that Gaddafi has been detained by the Lebanese judiciary for eight years.

The interrogation session for Hannibal Gaddafi was held at around 11 a.m. today at the Beirut Palace of Justice, with three defense attorneys present, including Laurent Bayon, a French lawyer representing him.

Representatives of Imam Musa al-Sadr’s family and Sheikh Mohammad Yaqub also attended the session, with Antoine Oql serving as their attorney.

Before the session began, Inas Harraq, a member of Gaddafi’s legal team, stated: “Today’s session is not a test of Lebanon’s judiciary — it is a test of the conscience of the Lebanese state.”

Gaddafi’s lawyers objected to the high bail amount, arguing that “our client does not possess such an unreasonable sum.”
