Iran must move toward domestic Magnesium production

In an interview with Mizan News Agency, Mahmoud Khavari Daneshvar stated:

“The development and localization of processes for producing high–value-added chemical and mineral materials are among the main pillars of achieving a resilient economy and reducing dependence on imports. In this context, magnesium derivatives — due to their unique properties across various grades — play a critical role in the country’s key industries.

Iran’s access to abundant dolomite and magnesite reserves provides the potential to produce industrial-grade magnesium at competitive prices and can also facilitate the export of finished refractory materials.

Domestic production of high-grade magnesium derivatives that meet pharmaceutical standards would also meet the needs of the nation’s pharmaceutical sector and strengthen the production chain for digestive medicines and supplements. Achieving pharmaceutical-grade quality requires advanced purification technology, which reflects the technical maturity of a production facility.

Moreover, magnesium derivatives hold significant importance in other fields such as environmental protection, agriculture, and the chemical and polymer industries, greatly enhancing the overall value-added of domestic production.”

He concluded by stressing:

“Producing magnesium derivatives in Iran — particularly with a focus on improving purity levels to specialized grades such as refractory and pharmaceutical — is a strategic necessity that requires substantial effort, investment, and determination to achieve.”
