Unemployment is a global threat to the family structure

Maryam Gaeini Pour told Mizan: “Unemployment is one of the most significant challenges facing our society today. It not only harms the economy but also poses a serious threat to the foundation of the family. The family is the main pillar of society and the sacred place for nurturing future generations. Youth unemployment, in addition to economic pressures, creates multiple psychological and social problems that directly impact family health. The stress caused by lack of employment, feelings of hopelessness and low self-worth, leads to increased family tensions and conflicts, which in some cases can result in family breakdowns and social harms such as addiction, divorce, and delinquency.”

The women’s rights activist added: “To confront this crisis, a comprehensive and holistic approach is needed to create conditions for sustainable employment in society. Supporting domestic production, facilitating the business environment, enhancing skill development, and paying special attention to women’s and girls’ employment — especially in home-based and skilled sectors — are among the most important solutions.”
