In response to Israel’s practice of paying for influence on social media, Iran’s Foreign Minister said: “We do not pay anyone to lie on social media; this is what Israel does.”

The Quincy Institute recently revealed in a report that Israel pays a group of approximately 14 to 18 social media influencers around $7,000 for each promotional post supporting the regime, aiming to create a positive image of Israel in American public opinion.

The release of this report coincided with widespread international criticism over Israel’s genocide in Gaza, attracting significant attention. In this context, CNN producer Van Jones sparked backlash during a widely viewed TV program by making an inappropriate joke about children killed in Gaza. He also accused Iran and Qatar of trying to influence American public opinion by sharing videos of Palestinian victims on social media.

These remarks provoked a wave of online criticism and ultimately forced him to apologize for the “joke.”

Reacting to Van Jones’ apology post, Araghchi shared the Quincy Institute report with the comment: “We do not pay anyone to lie on social media; this is what Israel does.”
