The Palestinian Center for Missing and Forcibly Disappeared Persons announced that, according to estimates, more than 8,000 people remain missing under the rubble caused by Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

According to Russia Today, the center stressed the catastrophic dimensions of the humanitarian crisis in the region and called for urgent international assistance to locate and recover the victims from beneath the ruins.

The center also highlighted the inability of local institutions to cope with the massive scale of destruction resulting from Israel’s continuous bombardment over the past two years, underscoring the urgent need for immediate and effective international intervention.

Reiterating the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza, the center urged the international community to send technical teams and specialized equipment to extract the bodies of martyrs and identify them.

The center estimated that between 8,000 and 9,000 people remain missing in the Gaza war, noting that many are likely still under the rubble or in areas under Israeli military control.

It further called for immediate international intervention under the supervision of the United Nations, the Red Cross, and the Red Crescent, to provide heavy equipment, forensic experts, and DNA identification technologies to the people of Gaza so they can bury the martyrs with dignity and in accordance with international customs and agreements.

The center emphasized that the ongoing Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have severely disrupted efforts to retrieve bodies from the rubble. It therefore stressed the need for guarantees to stop the attacks and establish safe corridors for rescue and recovery teams.

The center also condemned the silence of the international community regarding the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, describing it as a betrayal of human values that has left Palestinian families alone to face an endless and painful tragedy.
