UK’s anti-Iran move following Snapback activation
Following the reinstatement of UN sanctions and resolutions against Iran through the snapback mechanism, the UK government announced on Monday that 71 new designations had been imposed under its Iran nuclear sanctions regime.
According to Reuters, the designations include 9 individuals and 62 entities, among them the Ministry of Oil and the Ministry of Energy.
The sanctions and UN resolutions, which had been lifted under the nuclear agreement, were reimposed on September 28 with the activation of the snapback mechanism.
The move to trigger the snapback mechanism, which was stipulated in the nuclear deal to restore sanctions and UN resolutions, was initiated at the request of France, Germany, and the UK.
Iran has described this Western action as illegal and declared that it will firmly defend its rights.
