3 dead and several injured in shooting in the U.S.

According to NBC News, Southport authorities confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and is currently being questioned.

Officials reported that on Saturday night, the suspect opened fire on restaurant patrons from a boat, leaving multiple casualties.

A spokesperson for Southport said the boat stopped in front of the restaurant, and the armed individual began shooting.

Following the incident, a U.S. Coast Guard team apprehended a person matching the shooter’s description while attempting to load the boat.

The motive of the suspect has not yet been disclosed, but the Southport Police Chief reassured residents in an interview that there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Prior to the suspect’s arrest, Southport authorities urged local residents to “remain in their homes and report any suspicious activity via 911.”

The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are reportedly assisting with the investigation.
