Iran recalls ambassadors from three European countries for consultations

Following the irresponsible move by the three European states in misusing the JCPOA dispute resolution mechanism to reinstate previously annulled UN Security Council resolutions, the ambassadors of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Germany, France, and the United Kingdom were summoned back to Tehran for consultations.

Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, after the Security Council vote on the resolution to extend the suspension of UN sanctions against Iran, stated: “Iran’s position on the snapback mechanism is clear: this action is illegal, invalid, and devoid of legitimacy.”

He stressed that the three European countries, who themselves have violated the agreement, cannot claim a “significant non-compliance.” He added: “The restrictions of Resolution 2231 will expire permanently on October 18, 2025; any attempt to revive or extend them is null and void.”

Araghchi emphasized: “We call on the President of the Security Council to declare today’s decision illegal; we call on the Secretary-General to refrain from playing any role in reviving expired sanctions. Those who pursue this unlawful path will bear full responsibility for damaging the credibility of the United Nations and for the humanitarian consequences it will have on the Iranian people. This dangerous precedent must not be established; if agreements can be broken at will, no country can trust international commitments; if unlawful measures are enforced by power instead of law, the Security Council will lose its own authority.”

The Foreign Minister further stated: “Military attacks have failed; the snapback will also fail. Dialogue is the only solution; the JCPOA proved this. Iran will never bow to pressure; we only respond to respect. The choice is clear: escalation or diplomacy.”
