Unidentified drones shut down Aalborg airport in Denmark

Early this morning, Danish police announced in a statement that Aalborg Airport, located in the north of the country, had been closed due to the sighting of unidentified drones in its airspace.

According to Reuters, the police statement noted that the unidentified drones, flying with their lights on, followed a pattern similar to drones that had grounded flights at Copenhagen Airport for four hours just a few days earlier.

A Danish police official, speaking to reporters, said it is unclear whether these drones are the same type as those that flew over Copenhagen Airport on Monday. He added: “It is still too early to say what the purpose of these drones is or who is behind this incident.”

In connection with the incident, the intergovernmental organization Eurocontrol, which oversees European air traffic, stated that due to drone activity near Aalborg Airport, all inbound and outbound flights were suspended until 4 a.m. today.

Previously, Copenhagen Airport in Denmark and Oslo Airport in Norway had also suspended flights due to drone sightings.

On Tuesday morning (September 22), senior Copenhagen police official Jakob Hansen told reporters that extensive investigations had been launched to determine the type of drones involved.
