Decline in Americans’ approval of Trump’s performance
According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted over three days and concluded on Sunday, only 41% of respondents said they approve of Donald Trump’s overall performance as U.S. president, down from 42% in the September 5–9 survey.
About 54% of those surveyed said the national economy is on the wrong track — up from 53% in August and 52% in July.
The results show that only 35% specifically approved of Trump’s handling of the economy, and just 28% approved of his management of their cost of living — both figures lower than in previous polls. Trump returned to the White House in January after last year’s election campaign promises to fix the economy.
According to Reuters, the decline in public approval comes after U.S. job growth weakened sharply in August and unemployment rose to 4.3%, its highest level in four years. Inflation also accelerated last month.
Public concerns over the economy had also intensified earlier in the year, when Trump threatened heavy tariffs on imported goods, triggering a sharp decline in stock market values.
