Meeting between the Foreign Ministers of three European countries, the EU high representative, and Araghchi

Upon arrival at the venue, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi met with Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative.

Araghchi, who is in New York to attend the annual UN General Assembly, held talks this morning with the foreign ministers of the UK, Germany, and France.

In the joint meeting, which was also attended by Ms. Kaja Kallas, the EU’s foreign policy chief, the parties reviewed the course of discussions held over the past month to find diplomatic solutions regarding Iran’s nuclear issue and to prevent further escalation.

The Iranian Foreign Minister outlined Iran’s principled positions and practical steps in recent months to remove any doubts or pretexts about its nuclear program. He described the unlawful and criminal attacks against Iran and the damage to its nuclear facilities as a dark and dangerous chapter in the history of the non-proliferation regime. Referring to Iran’s latest responsible step—reaching an understanding with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to fulfill safeguard obligations under the new circumstances—he stressed the need for reciprocal and responsible measures by the European parties.

During the meeting, in light of the unjustified and illegal move to initiate the process of re-imposing previously lifted UN Security Council sanctions, some ideas and proposals were raised to continue diplomacy. It was agreed that consultations with all concerned parties would continue.
