Transfer of an Iranian prisoner from Belgium to Iran
Askar Jalalian, Deputy for Human Rights and International Affairs at the Ministry of Justice, reported the transfer of an Iranian national imprisoned in Belgium back to the country.
Jalalian stated: “In implementation of the Agreement on the Transfer of Sentenced Prisoners concluded between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Belgium, an Iranian national imprisoned in Belgium was transferred to our country on Thursday, September 18, 2025, to serve the remainder of his sentence.”
He referred to the efforts of the Secretariat of the Prisoner Transfer Committee at the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Interpol, the Judiciary, the Tehran Prosecutor’s Office, and the Prisons Organization in facilitating prisoner transfers, emphasizing: “Humanitarian and human rights protections are among the fundamental goals of concluding prisoner transfer agreements with other countries. Accordingly, since the beginning of this year, more than 200 foreign prisoners have been transferred from Iran to their home countries, and 160 Iranian nationals imprisoned abroad have been transferred back to Iran.”
The Deputy Minister of Justice added: “In the matter of prisoner transfers to their home countries, alongside respecting the dignity of prisoners and focusing on their reintegration into society, the rights of the prisoners’ families are also taken into account.”
