Tel Aviv’s plots to assassinate Hamas leaders in Cairo exposed

A senior security source told the outlet: “Intelligence reports indicate that Israel has for some time been devising schemes to assassinate Hamas leaders in Cairo. Egypt had already foiled one such attempt during ceasefire negotiations over the past two years.”

This revelation comes after the Israeli regime last Tuesday carried out around 12 airstrikes targeting residential buildings in Doha, the Qatari capital, in an attempt to assassinate Hamas leaders. The operation failed and sparked a wave of widespread condemnation.

According to Middle East Eye, Egyptian officials pledged to respond to any Israeli act of aggression against Egypt following threats by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who had warned of attacks in other countries under the pretext of targeting Hamas.

One of the security sources cited by the outlet stated: “Egypt considers any attempt on the lives of Hamas leaders on its soil a violation of its sovereignty and effectively a declaration of war by Israel, and we will not hesitate to retaliate.”

Although it has not been officially confirmed that Hamas leaders reside in Egypt, the security source told Middle East Eye in exclusive statements that several senior figures of the movement have been living in the country for years, even before the current Gaza war. However, for security reasons, he declined to disclose their identities, numbers, or locations.

The source added that Egyptian officials have urged their Israeli counterparts to return to negotiations and work toward a ceasefire in Gaza, instead of dragging the entire region into escalating tensions and endless wars.
