Protests and violence in Nepal have continued, with demonstrators setting fire to a hotel and an Indian woman killed in the incident.

According to India’s NDTV, an Indian woman died after jumping from a hotel window when protesters set the building on fire.

The victim, Rajesh Gola, 57, from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh—India’s most populous state—lost her life while trying to escape. She had been on a short trip to Nepal with her husband when their hotel was attacked.

The unrest began Monday when thousands of Gen Z protesters took to the streets in response to the government’s decision to ban access to social media. The demonstrations quickly escalated as police forces cracked down on protesters.

Amid the intensifying nationwide protests led by Nepali youth against corruption, Sushila Karki, the former Chief Justice of Nepal, is expected to be sworn in today as interim prime minister.

Just a day earlier, Kulman Ghising, former head of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA)—known for ending chronic power cuts through sweeping energy sector reforms—was floated as one of the main contenders to lead the interim government.

According to AFP, at least 51 people have been killed and 1,000 others injured in clashes with security forces since the unrest began.
