Supreme leader approves conditions for pardon and sentence reduction for court convicts
In a letter from Mohseni Ejei, the request was made for pardons and reductions of sentences for convicts of the General and Revolutionary Courts, the Judicial Organization of the Armed Forces, and the Organization for Governmental Sanctions whose sentences will become final by September 9, 2025.
Regarding convicts of security-related crimes, the Head of the Judiciary’s letter specifies that at least five years must have passed since the finalization of their sentences, and the sentences must not have been executed for specific reasons, provided that since the final verdict, the individuals have not engaged in any actions against national interests, security, or national cohesion.
According to the letter, the remaining prison terms of patients with severe or incurable illnesses are also eligible for pardon, provided that their medical condition is confirmed by the Legal Medicine Commission.
A portion of this pardon and sentence reduction applies to convicts of financial penalties, with details specified in the letter from the Head of the Judiciary.
The following crimes are explicitly excluded from this pardon and sentence reduction:
- Armed or aggravated robbery, or robbery committed by individuals with prior criminal records;
- Armed narcotics and psychotropic-related crimes;
- Purchase, sale, and trafficking of war-grade firearms and ammunition;
- Crimes against domestic and foreign security;
- Espionage, collaboration with hostile states, and membership in terrorist groups;
- Kidnapping, acid attacks, counterfeiting banknotes or coins;
- Direct or accessory involvement in major disruption of the economic system;
- Trafficking of alcoholic beverages.
