The Russian Human Rights Delegation visited Evin Prison and, while expressing condolences and sympathy, condemned the crimes committed by the Israeli regime.

On Monday, September 8, a human rights delegation from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs visited Evin Prison to review the situation following the Israeli aggression.

The Russian delegation included Grigory Lukyantsev, Director General for Multilateral Human Rights Cooperation at the Russian MFA; Rafael Gorkian, Deputy Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Tehran; Stanislav Koppak, Head of the Human Rights Department at the Russian MFA; and Emil Safarov, Second Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Tehran.

The delegation was accompanied during the visit by Jamiyari, Deputy Director General of Tehran Province Prisons.

Russian officials inspected various sections of Evin Prison that had been targeted by Israeli strikes, including six different areas such as the administrative building, hospital, and visitors’ hall.

During the visit, the head of the Russian delegation expressed condolences to the families of victims and condemned the Israeli attack on Evin Prison, stating: “We offer our condolences for the large number of victims in this attack. This aggression is unacceptable.”

Jamiyari briefed the delegation on the situation in the aftermath of the Israeli assault, emphasizing that the Israeli regime had committed a grave crime in violation of all international norms.

“According to all international rules, prisons must remain secure even in times of war. However, the Israeli regime has committed unprecedented atrocities,” he said.

He further noted that in addition to the severe structural damage observed, a number of staff members, soldiers, social workers, nurses, prisoners, and even prisoners’ family members had been martyred.

On Monday, June 23, 2025, the Israeli regime targeted Evin Prison with a projectile in a terrorist attack.

According to official figures released so far, 80 people were martyred in the attack by the Zionist criminal network. The victims included prison administrative staff, conscript soldiers, inmates, family members who had come for visitation or legal follow-up, as well as nearby residents.

According to the judiciary spokesperson, at the time of the attack several families were inside the prison for visitation or administrative purposes; the hall where they were present was struck, leading to multiple casualties and injuries.

Among those martyred in the Israeli terrorist assault was Judge Ali Ghanatkar, a courageous and devoted jurist, Deputy Prosecutor of Tehran and Head of Branch 33 of the Tehran Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office (Evin).
