Tunisian activist joins Gaza Freedom Flotilla with his precious boat

According to Anadolu, Houssam Eddine Ben Taher, one of the participants in the international solidarity flotilla “Al-Sumoud”, said: “I saw an article on Facebook about the Al-Sumoud flotilla and told myself, if I don’t join, it will remain a mark of shame on my forehead.”

He added: “I have everything necessary to join this solidarity mission. Everything I own is for Palestine. Only 11 of these boats exist in the world, and it is very precious to me. But in support of the Palestinian cause, any sacrifice is worth it.”

Ben Taher not only offered his boat—purchased in 2021—for the Palestinian cause, but also decided to personally sail it all the way to Gaza’s shores to help break the blockade.

He stressed: “One of the most valuable legacies I can leave my children is the struggle for justice, freedom, Palestine, and Gaza. This is the greatest lesson I can pass on to them. If I could give my soul as a gift, I would offer my life to a small child from Gaza.”

Speaking about the perilous journey toward Gaza, the Al-Sumoud flotilla member said: “I am ready for every scenario. This participation is deeply important to me.”

The main Al-Sumoud flotilla departed last Sunday from the port of Barcelona, Spain, and another convoy joined it Monday morning from Genoa in northwestern Italy. Another group is expected to set sail from Tunisia on Sunday to join the flotilla en route to Gaza.

The flotilla is a coalition of the Freedom Flotilla Alliance, the Global Gaza Movement, the Al-Sumoud Flotilla, and Malaysia’s Al-Sumoud Nusantara organization, with the aim of delivering humanitarian aid and showing solidarity with the people under siege in Gaza.
