Hearing on charges against four suspects in the Mossad and Monafeghin espionage-terror network in Alborz Province
The hearing took place with the presence of the presiding judge, court advisors, the prosecutor’s representative, the four defendants, and their lawyers.
Hossein Fazeli-Harikandi, Chief Justice of Alborz Province, explained details of the case: “The trial of the espionage network affiliated with the Monafeghin Terrorist Organization and the Zionist regime was held at the Revolutionary Court of Alborz Province with the attendance of the defendants and their legal representatives.”
During the session, the prosecutor’s representative first read out the indictment. Afterwards, following the formal presentation of charges by the court, the defendants and their lawyers submitted their defense statements.
The case, currently under review at Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court in Karaj, concerns a four-member espionage network consisting of three men and one woman residing in Karaj and Isfahan.
Recruitment and activities
According to the Chief Justice of Alborz Province, the defendants were recruited through various means, including via intermediaries from certain groups in a neighboring country and through virtual platforms, and then connected to Monafeghin Terrorist Organization and Mossad handlers. At first, they carried out actions such as sending coordinates of sensitive locations and setting fire to facilities in different cities.
He added that later, after receiving training in making explosive projectiles and launchers, as well as instructions on firing techniques and documenting terrorist operations through photos and videos, the group was assigned its main mission in late May of this year: to attack one of the country’s key military centers using explosive projectiles.
Identification and arrest of the defendants
Fazeli-Harikandi stated that the suspects had received various payments in cryptocurrency from their handlers. About one month before the Zionist regime’s attack on Iran, after manufacturing explosive projectiles and transporting them to the launch site, they prepared to carry out an operation against a military facility. However, thanks to the intelligence monitoring of judicial security officers and under judicial orders, the ready-to-fire explosive projectiles and launcher were discovered and seized. Two of the defendants were arrested on-site before they could launch the attack, and subsequently, their two accomplices were also identified and detained.
Charges against the defendants
He added that after the arrests and completion of investigations, indictments were issued and referred to the court for trial.
The charges brought against the defendants include:
- Moharebeh (armed rebellion) through deliberate arson and collaboration with a hostile government and the Zionist regime,
- Aiding and abetting Moharebeh,
- Cooperation with hostile and anti-state groups linked to the Zionist regime,
- Conspiracy and collusion against national security, and
- Membership in groups hostile to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
