The official in charge of compensating war victims in Israel described the 12-day war with Iran as a “tsunami” for Israel, saying the damages equaled those of two full years of war in Gaza.

According to News1, quoting the head of Israel’s Tax Authority (the body responsible for compensating war damages), the scale and destructiveness of Iran’s attacks were so severe that urgent legislation is needed to enable rebuilding.

The report added: following Israel’s 12-day war with Iran, nearly 54,000 direct compensation claims were filed with the Tax Authority—almost equal to the 75,000 claims filed throughout the entire “Operation Iron Swords” (Israel’s war on Gaza).

Shay Aharonovich, Director of the Tax Authority, revealed these figures during a real estate conference held at the Peres Academic Center in Rehovot.

According to him, damages during the 12-day war with Iran were extremely severe due to the power of Iranian missiles, which completely destroyed more than 30 buildings.

He added that new legislation is currently being drafted to allow reconstruction projects to be converted into urban renewal plans—both to improve land use and to reduce compensation costs.
