China unveils new nuclear missile with range covering the entire globe

The new strategic liquid-fueled intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), the DF-5C, was revealed on Wednesday during China’s Victory Day military parade marking the 80th anniversary of China’s triumph in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the global war against fascism.

Professor Yang Chengjun, an expert in missile technology and nuclear disarmament, told Global Times that the missile has an estimated range of over 20,000 kilometers, with advantages in penetration and strike accuracy.

According to Global Times, the missile is always on standby to provide effective deterrence, prevent wars through strength, and contribute to global stability.

Yang explained that the DF-5C has several distinguishing features:

1.     New Structure – The entire missile is carried in three sections by three separate vehicles. Its launch preparation time is expected to be shorter than that of earlier DF-5 models, allowing for faster response.

2.     Extended Range – With a range exceeding 20,000 kilometers, the missile can cover the entire globe. This provides China with the capability for retaliatory strikes against any military target worldwide that poses a real nuclear threat.

3.     Launch Flexibility – Building on previous DF-series developments, the new missile may feature diverse launch methods.

4.     High Speed – As a strategic ICBM with global reach, the DF-5C can fly at hypersonic speeds reaching several dozen Mach, leaving today’s ballistic missile defense systems with minimal time to react.
