Car drives into crowd in Northern France, leaving 1 dead and 5 injured
According to reports, the car struck people gathered outside a restaurant in the town of Eu, located in the Normandy region.
Prosecutors told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that the driver deliberately drove into the crowd following a confrontation.
The incident has left one person dead and five others injured. Investigations into murder and attempted murder have begun, and authorities have ruled out any terrorist or racist motives.
Remi Coutin, the prosecutor in Eu, said: “Unfortunately, the casualties are severe. One man died at the scene, five were injured, and two of them are in critical condition.”
Coutin explained that the incident followed a confrontation between a young woman and several men. Security officers had directed all customers outside the restaurant.
The prosecutor added that one individual returned to retrieve a vehicle and deliberately reversed at high speed into the crowd, escalating the situation into a horrific tragedy.
Following the incident, two men and one woman have been summoned to court.
