Unprecedented decline in U.S. support for alliance with Israel

According to the survey, published by Quinnipiac University, U.S. support for military aid to Israel amid the Gaza war has fallen to its lowest point since the conflict began in October 2023. The poll, conducted between August 21 and 25, included responses from 1,220 people across the United States.

The results indicate that 60% of voters oppose sending military aid to Israel, while only 32% support increasing such assistance. A Quinnipiac official noted: “This is the highest level of opposition and the lowest level of support for America’s military alliance with Israel in our surveys since the October 7, 2023 attacks.”

Politico, reporting on the findings, wrote that while U.S. President Donald Trump is pushing for an end to the conflict, Democrats are struggling to manage internal party divisions over support for Israel.

The poll further revealed that 75% of Democrats and 66% of independents oppose increasing military aid to Israel, while 56% of Republicans back it.

Additionally, half of all voters—including 77% of Democrats—believe Israel is committing genocide. By contrast, 64% of Republicans reject this view.

When asked about sympathies toward the sides in the conflict, opinions were split: 37% said they sympathized more with Palestinians, while 36% expressed greater sympathy for Israelis. Quinnipiac analysts highlighted: “This marks the highest level of sympathy for Palestinians and the lowest level of sympathy for Israelis since 2001.”
