Confusion among Israeli soldiers over mission in Gaza

The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth quoted a soldier from the IDF’s 4th Brigade as saying that the mission of Israeli troops in Gaza during the “Gideon’s Chariots 1 and 2” operations remains unclear.

According to the outlet, the soldier added that so far no explanation has been given about how Hamas is supposed to be defeated or how the hostages will be freed, while troops are facing exhaustion and severe attrition.

The same outlet also reported that after the army admitted a shortage of 10,000 to 12,000 soldiers, Israel’s Broadcasting Authority revealed that the average enlistment commitment has dropped to 50%, stressing the urgent need for more manpower.

An Israeli media outlet had previously disclosed that, due to the shortage of military personnel in the occupied territories, Israel is seeking to recruit Jewish soldiers from outside the country.

Israel Army Radio revealed that the military faces a shortfall of 10,000 to 12,000 troops and intends to compensate by recruiting young Jews from abroad for multi-year service.

Senior Israeli military officials have stated that their annual target is to bring in 600 to 700 additional soldiers from outside Israel, focusing mainly on Jewish communities in the United States and France.

Israel Army Radio emphasized that this step highlights a grim reality: the military is forced to rely on Jews living far from Israel because young ultra-Orthodox Israelis are increasingly avoiding military service.

This move comes as Israel pushes ahead with its plans to occupy Gaza City.
