Baghaei: Targeting ICC judges is a clear abuse of power

The spokesperson of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, referring to the U.S. sanctions against four more judges of the International Criminal Court (ICC), described this move as a clear act of complicity in war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide in Palestine.

Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reacted in a post on social media platform X to the recent U.S. decision to sanction four ICC judges. He wrote:

“The U.S. sanctions against four more judges of the International Criminal Court—judges of Canadian, French, Senegalese, and Fijian nationality—for investigating Israel’s crimes are not only an unprecedented assault on justice but also clear complicity in war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide in Palestine.

This assault on ICC judges is a blatant abuse of power that grants the Israeli regime absolute impunity to continue its crimes, gives it license to commit further atrocities, and places international peace and security in grave danger.

Such blatant lawlessness exposes the true nature of the so-called rules-based order: a lawless framework that serves nothing but their own interests and desires, with no regard for established rules of international law or ethical and humanitarian principles.”
