Another Israeli soldier found dead as suicide cases rise

The report, published by Channel 12 News, stated that the Israeli Military Police have launched an investigation into the cause of death and will hand over the findings to the military prosecutor once completed.

According to the report, the body of a reserve officer from an operational unit was discovered on Thursday in the north of the occupied territories. The Military Police Investigation Unit has begun probing the circumstances of his death, and his family has been informed.

The report also noted that compared to previous years, there has been a significant rise in the number of soldiers committing suicide. This trend has intensified since the start of the Gaza war and appears to be worsening as the war continues.

Just in the past month, three Israeli soldiers ended their lives within a one-and-a-half-week period. In addition, a paratrooper who attempted suicide at a military base in the south of the occupied territories is currently hospitalized in critical condition.

Channel 12 further reported that if the current trend continues, the Israeli army will face the highest suicide rate in the past 20 years.

In 2024, 21 soldiers have taken their own lives, compared to 17 in 2023 — both figures already higher than those recorded in the past decade.
