10,000 killed in Syria since Julani took power

Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, known for its ties to Al-Qaeda and ISIS, took control of the capital on December 8, 2024, following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government.

The Observatory reported that out of 9,889 victims of recent violence, 7,449 were civilians, including 396 children and 541 women.

The report criticized the lack of accountability for crimes committed by forces affiliated with Julani.

It states that in many cases, perpetrators remain hidden and facts have been distorted.

For example, the fact-finding committee issued findings about the massacre of around 1,600 Alawites in Syria’s coastal regions in March that contradict the reality.

The Syrian Observatory also reported that thousands of people remain detained without fair trials or access to a judge.

Many of these individuals were arrested during raids or at checkpoints without specific charges.

Meanwhile, forces under Tahrir al-Sham’s leadership have continued to kill Druze civilians in the city of Sweida.

Media outlets supporting this group have attempted to justify these crimes by using derogatory nicknames for Alawites such as “remnants of Assad’s state” and insulting terms like “pigs” for Alawites and Druze.

This report was released amid serious concerns about the security of religious and ethnic minorities in Syria due to ongoing violence.
