Israeli soldier commits suicide after 300 days in Gaza
According to a report by Israeli army radio, Roee Feirstein, a reservist in the 401st Armored Brigade, who had served for more than 300 days in the war and participated in evacuating the bodies of the dead and wounded from the battlefield, suffered from severe psychological trauma and committed suicide.
The report states that Feirstein’s extensive involvement in these gruesome tasks left deep psychological scars, ultimately leading him to make decision to end his life.
Israeli sources say that seven Israeli soldiers have committed suicide just in the current month alone.
Two days ago, Israel's Kan network also reported that since the beginning of 2024, 16 Israeli soldiers have taken their own lives — 8 active-duty soldiers, 7 reservists, and 1 career soldier.
According to Israeli sources, over 45 Israeli soldiers have committed suicide since the start of the war on Gaza, driven by war-induced psychological disorders.
Israeli media outlets have noted that the suicide rate among Israeli soldiers is rising, and the newspaper Haaretz quoted sources saying that, due to a shortage of manpower, the Israeli army has recalled reservists suffering from mental health issues for further deployment in Gaza.
