The Nightmare of Gaza haunts Israeli soldiers

According to these sources, Ariel Taman, a reservist in the Israeli army, committed suicide at his home in the western Negev, in the south of the occupied Palestinian territories. He had been working in the field of identifying the remains of Israeli soldiers and captives transferred from the Gaza Strip.

Channel 12 of Israeli television reported that Taman is the 48th Israeli soldier to have committed suicide since the start of the Gaza war, based on data published in Israeli media—despite strict military censorship regarding army casualties in the war.

The channel added: “Recently, we are witnessing a troubling increase in suicides among Israeli soldiers. In July alone, four soldiers took their own lives, and overall, the number of such cases since the beginning of the war has risen compared to previous years.”

It emphasized: “It appears that this trend is worsening as the war continues.”

Earlier, the Italian outlet Inside Over had also reported an unprecedented rise in suicides among soldiers who took part in the military campaigns in Gaza and southern Lebanon. The report stated that the psychological crisis within the Israeli military has surpassed the regime’s capacity to manage it, and that official institutions have deliberately neglected the issue.

The report also referenced the severe psychological state of Daniel Edri, an Israeli reservist who set himself on fire near the city of Safed after returning from combat. He was reportedly haunted by images of charred bodies and horrific scenes of war. Unable to cope with the psychological trauma of what he had witnessed and participated in; he ultimately ended his life.
