Newsweek: 30 patriot missiles fired at Al Udeid base to intercept 14 Iranian missiles
Citing researchers from the Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA), Newsweek stated that the cost of firing that number of interceptor missiles to counter the Iranian attack totaled $111 million.
This comes amid earlier media reports, supported by satellite imagery, which revealed that Iranian missiles successfully penetrated the U.S. air defense system and struck a geodesic dome—a structure housing equipment used by the U.S. for secure communications.
The geodesic dome is a spherical or semi-spherical structure composed of a network of interconnected triangles, and is used to shelter radar and communication systems.
Newsweek also quoted senior U.S. military officials, reporting that Iran’s missile strike on American positions at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar—carried out in retaliation for U.S. attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities—triggered an unprecedented real-time activation of the air defense system in a combat environment.
