Cambodia calls for ceasefire with Thailand
Chheang Vun, Cambodia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, announced that his country is calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire with Bangkok, following an emergency closed-door session of the UN Security Council regarding the military clashes along its border with Thailand.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Cambodia’s envoy to the UN stated: “We call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire with Thailand, and we also seek a peaceful resolution to end the dispute.”
AFP noted that this request comes as Bangkok had previously expressed its readiness to enter negotiations.
Meanwhile, Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health announced that more than 138,000 people have been evacuated from border areas amid the clashes. So far, 15 people — including 14 civilians and one soldier — have been killed, and 46 others, including 15 soldiers, have been injured.
