Condemning justice, acquitting genocide!

The end of World War II in the mid-20th century marked a decisive turning point in the history of international relations. After the savagery committed by those Western states that claimed to be the flag-bearers of civilization and modernity, the nations of the world came to share a common belief: the containment of potential and actual tensions in the international system should no longer be entrusted to states but to supranational institutions. The establishment of the United Nations was apparently a response to this collective post-war need. However, this response was shaped by those who themselves had played key roles in creating chronic and horrific crises across various countries.

Now, in the year 2025, humanity’s need for independent and powerful institutions capable of containing Western-Zionist terrorism is growing by the day. American officials continue to exploit their influence and tools of dominance within international organizations in the worst possible manner. What has transpired over the past two years, during the genocide of tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians, stands as clear evidence of this disgraceful and unjustifiable trend. Yet the catastrophe exceeds even our worst expectations.

In its latest move to support and escalate the crimes of the Zionist regime in Gaza, the United States recently imposed sanctions on Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories. These brazen sanctions were imposed because of her criticism of Israel’s war on Gaza and her efforts to pursue action against American companies supplying weapons to the Zionist regime’s army.

The issue is crystal clear: The United Nations has been reduced to an institution where even its own Special Rapporteur lacks the power to criticize genocide or the bombing of defenseless women and children. Under such circumstances, how can anyone speak seriously of justice or defending the legitimate rights of nations within the international system?

Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, issued a statement accusing Ms. Albanese of “abusing the law” and declared: “Today I am imposing sanctions on Francesca Albanese, the UN Human Rights Council’s Special Rapporteur, for her shameful and unlawful efforts to pressure the International Criminal Court to take action against American and Israeli officials, companies, and executives.”

Ms. Albanese’s primary “crime” was simply highlighting the role of American arms companies in delivering deadly weapons to the occupied territories and pointing to efforts to prevent the delivery of humanitarian aid and food to Gaza! The result of this (perfectly clear and well-documented) exposure has been sanctions against the UN Special Rapporteur — not against Israel or the United States!

Francesca Albanese has called for arms embargoes on Tel Aviv and a severing of trade relations with the Zionist regime by member states of the UN Human Rights Council. The criminal Zionist regime faces charges of genocide at the International Court of Justice and war crimes at the International Criminal Court.

In a report she published earlier this month, Ms. Albanese accused over 60 companies, including major arms manufacturers and tech firms, of supporting the Zionist regime’s settlements and military actions in Gaza. In this report, she urged these companies to end their blood-soaked dealings with Tel Aviv and called for the prosecution of executives involved in violations of international law.
