A press conference was held today (Tuesday, July 22, 2025) with Asghar Jahangir, spokesperson for Iran’s Judiciary, attended by reporters from various media outlets.

At the beginning of the conference, Jahangir said: Last week, high-ranking judicial officials visited the Supreme Leader of the Revolution and attentively listened to his valuable remarks, which outlined the roadmap and the country's new conditions. A key point from the Supreme Leader’s remarks, which should serve as a guiding principle for all of us, was the emphasis on national unity, which was prioritized in his speech.

The judiciary spokesperson stressed: In governance, we must act in a way that shows our appreciation for the unity of this 90-million-strong nation. This unity, achieved through the blood of martyrs and the wise leadership of the Supreme Leader, is a measure of the nation’s strength and has disrupted the calculations of the enemy. Everyone has now realized that the system, backed by its people, can deliver crushing blows to any aggressor.

He added: Today, no person, group, or movement is allowed to undermine this national unity through reckless words or thoughtless actions. The Iranian people, standing behind the Supreme Leader with unity and religious spirit, have shown they are more ready than ever to defend the dignity of Islam and our beloved homeland.

Jahangir said: In these circumstances, our dear nation rightly expects the Judiciary to act firmly against any element that tries to harm this unity. Accordingly, the Judiciary, with the cooperation of the people and security forces, including police and intelligence bodies, will ensure that this national cohesion remains intact.

He further noted: In recent days, certain individuals have irresponsibly raised issues in official platforms without evidence, causing misguided analyses and concerns among the public. Such actions could be seen as disturbing public opinion and may threaten the psychological security of the people.

He emphasized: The Judiciary will certainly fulfill its duties in this regard and will not allow the hard-earned unity, forged through national solidarity, to be jeopardized by thoughtless remarks, thereby creating unnecessary tension that benefits the enemies.

Jahangir warned: We advise anyone with public influence to refrain from spreading baseless analyses before gathering credible evidence and reliable information. The country is in a sensitive situation, and one irresponsible comment could provide the grounds for rumors and insecurity, which is both unfair and legally actionable.

The Judiciary spokesperson stated: Over the past year, all well-intentioned individuals, officials, and above all the Supreme Leader, have repeatedly stressed the painful issue of heroic Gaza. The crimes currently being committed against Muslims in Gaza are unprecedented worldwide — even in historical genocides, we have seen no such example. According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, since the genocidal war began on October 7, 2023, 58,765 people have been martyred and over 140,000 injured. Many bodies still lie under the rubble or on the streets, unreachable by rescue teams.

He continued: In recent days, at least 14 Palestinians were killed while trying to collect food aid and more than 90 others were injured while seeking food. This shows that nearly 1,000 Palestinians have been gunned down simply for trying to obtain bread, with over 6,000 injured. Such crimes have not been repeated anywhere in the world. Tragically, attempts to obtain food have become deadly in Gaza as the Zionists seek to wipe out this population through starvation.

When asked about how the Judiciary intends to deal with those arrested for collaborating with the Zionist regime amid recent crimes, Jahangir said: Those arrested or prosecuted must be categorized. If individuals were connected with enemy operations but turned themselves in voluntarily — as per the Supreme National Security Council’s announcement — before arrest, they will be treated according to law and may benefit from leniency.

He added: Another category includes those covered under Article 507 of the Islamic Penal Code or other relevant laws. Under Article 507, individuals involved in crimes against internal or external security who inform authorities before prosecution or cooperate effectively with them may be exempted from punishment, except for any separate crimes they personally committed.

Jahangir continued: Those who disregarded the advice of security and judicial authorities, acted in line with enemy agendas, and contributed to enemy efforts will certainly face the harshest punishments according to the law, with full adherence to Islamic justice, and deterrent verdicts will soon be announced.

On the Judiciary’s actions to hold accountable the Zionist regime and the U.S. government for crimes against Iran, Jahangir said: The Judiciary is determined to document all aspects of these crimes in domestic and international courts with cooperation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Presidential Legal Department, and relevant bodies.

He noted: Following these aggressions, by order of the Judiciary Chief, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the International Affairs Department promptly began investigations. A case concerning the Zionist regime’s war crimes against the Iranian nation has been opened in Tehran’s Prosecutor’s Office and is in preliminary investigation. They are currently assessing the damage inflicted on people, facilities, and property across the country. With the help of military and governmental bodies, a comprehensive list of these crimes is being compiled for legal and judicial action at home and abroad.

On the number of Iranian martyrs during Zionist attacks, Jahangir said: According to the Martyrs Foundation’s official data, 1,062 individuals were martyred during the Zionist regime’s criminal attacks. This figure differs from forensic records, as some cases are still under DNA analysis for identification.

Responding to whether escaped prisoners during Zionist attacks have been recaptured, Jahangir said: During this unprecedented attack, in violation of all international protocols — something unseen even during wars — some inmates left the prison for their safety. This cannot be strictly categorized as escape. Some voluntarily returned without legal pursuit once conditions stabilized. Others have been identified and are being apprehended.

He explained: A total of 75 inmates left the prison during the attack; so far, 48 have returned or been arrested. Of the remaining 27, if they do not surrender, they will certainly be apprehended in the coming days. None of these 27 are spies, security prisoners, or serious offenders. Most were low-risk inmates on open prison sentences.
