Ireland bans imports of products from Israeli settlements
According to Israel Hayom, amid the ongoing genocide committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza, the Irish government has decided to implement a law banning the import of goods produced in Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
The report states that the Irish Parliament is expected to finalize legislation on Tuesday that will ban imports of products from Israeli settlements and classify their purchase as a criminal offense.
This development comes after, on June 26, Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin had called on the European Union, during a European Council meeting in Brussels, to impose sanctions on settlers as well as on Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s Minister of National Security, and Bezalel Smotrich, Israel’s Minister of Finance, for fueling violence in the West Bank.
Israel Hayom reported that this move by the Irish Parliament has sparked strong anger among Israeli officials, particularly the Council of Jewish Settlements in the West Bank.
Meanwhile, Yossi Dagan, head of the Council of Settlements in the West Bank, reacted by sending a letter to several senior U.S. government and congressional officials, expressing his outrage over this law.
He called on senior U.S. officials to impose high tariffs against Ireland should this law pass in the Irish Parliament, saying: “Ireland is the first European country considering enacting a nationwide legal sanction against Jewish products.”
