Third Israeli soldier dies by suicide in a week
According to Al Mayadeen, Israeli media reported that a 30-year-old Israeli soldier was found dead from a gunshot wound inside his car in the area of Kfar Tappuah in the West Bank.
The Israeli outlet Hadshot LeLo Tzanzura stated that the soldier had committed suicide.
Israeli security sources have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances or cause of the suicide.
This incident marks the third suicide among Israeli soldiers in just one week.
Recently, Israeli sources reported that since the start of the Gaza war on October 7, 2023, at least 43 Israeli soldiers have taken their own lives due to war-induced psychological trauma.
In this context, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, citing unnamed sources, reported that the Israeli military, due to a shortage of personnel, has been recruiting reservists suffering from mental illnesses for deployment in Gaza.
According to the paper, “The army, facing a shortage of troops and a rise in soldier suicides, is now calling up individuals suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to fight.”
Meanwhile, in late May, Israel’s Ministry of Public Security announced that 9,000 Israeli soldiers had developed psychological disabilities since October 7, 2023 (from the start of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood to May 17, 2025).
The report also stated that the Israeli military does not disclose the number of suicides among its troops this year. Since the war in Gaza began, many soldiers have been buried without formal military funerals.
