Execution of 9 ISIS terrorists carried out
The death sentences for the nine ISIS terrorists were upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court.
On January 27, 2017, the commander of the IRGC Ground Forces, General Pakpour, announced the dismantling of an ISIS terrorist cell in western Iran. According to him, ISIS intended to deploy operatives inside Iran to carry out terrorist attacks in border and central cities, but they were caught in an intelligence and security operation by Islamic fighters.
Fighters from the IRGC’s Najaf Base, in collaboration with the intelligence agents of the Ministry of Intelligence, identified the terrorists’ precise location and hideout in the rugged western regions. After surrounding the group, they engaged in a military operation, killing several ISIS members and arresting others. Some ISIS operatives died by detonating suicide vests during the clash.
In the operation, three fighters from the Najaf Base were martyred.
Various military weapons, ammunition, a machine gun, 50 grenades, thermal cameras, handguns, and a large quantity of ammunition and magazines were seized from the terrorist cell.
The case, charged with waging war through armed rebellion and possession of military weapons, was referred to the Tehran Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office. After investigations and the issuance of an indictment, it was sent to court.
Following trial sessions attended by the defendants and their lawyers, the court, based on the case’s evidence, confessions, and the defendants’ actions—including carrying weapons, engaging in combat with IRGC forces, and martyring three Najaf Base fighters—sentenced the nine ISIS members to death.
After the Supreme Court upheld the verdict, the nine members of the ISIS terrorist group were executed by hanging.
