Garbage accumulation crisis in Gaza Strip

Hosni Muhanna, the spokesperson, stated that 260,000 tons of waste have accumulated in the city center.

He emphasized that the occupying regime’s prevention of access to the Juhr al-Dik landfill has caused an unprecedented environmental disaster, posing a real threat to residents’ lives. The accumulation of waste has turned Gaza into an environment conducive to foul odors, rodent proliferation, and the spread of diseases among residents.

The Gaza Municipality spokesperson noted that, due to high summer temperatures, waste decomposes rapidly, and its materials may seep into Gaza’s groundwater. The occupiers refuse to discuss coordination for allowing municipal vehicles to access the Juhr al-Dik landfill, as these areas are highly dangerous due to the advancing occupying army and concentrated attacks.

He added that the occupying forces destroyed 134 municipal vehicles that provided services to residents, and the shortage of vehicles poses a real threat to municipal operations. The international community must urgently intervene to save Gaza from this environmental catastrophe, which threatens over one million citizens of the city.
