Transfer of 7 Iranian prisoners from Kazakhstan to Iran

Askar Jalalian, Deputy for Human Rights and International Affairs of the Ministry of Justice and head of the Convict Transfer Committee, told Mizan: "Through the persistent efforts of the Ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs and the follow-up of our embassy in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, today we witness the transfer of 7 Iranian convicts held in the prisons of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Iran."

According to Jalalian, after the enforcement of the convict transfer agreement between the two countries, this is the second group of Iranian prisoners transferred in the past three months, through the efforts of the Secretariat of the Convict Transfer Committee of the Ministry of Justice, to continue their sentences in Iranian prisons.

Referring to the ongoing activities of the Secretariat of the Convict Transfer Committee to address the issues of Iranian citizens in foreign prisons, based on the committee’s legal duties, Jalalian stated: "The Secretariat of the Convict Transfer Committee of the Ministry of Justice is diligently pursuing the transfer of Iranian prisoners from foreign countries. Since the beginning of this year, 156 Iranian nationals held in foreign prisons have been transferred to Iranian prisons to continue their sentences. This process is being carried out through negotiations with all countries holding Iranian convicts, and we hope to transfer a significant number of Iranian convicts to Iranian prisons by the end of the year in order to uphold their citizenship rights."
