Pope Leo, the leader of the world’s Catholics, described the situation in Gaza as “concerning and tragic” and called on the Zionist regime to allow humanitarian aid into the enclave.

According to Reuters, the Pope made these remarks during his weekly public address in St. Peter’s Square, adding: “I reiterate my request for allowing fair humanitarian aid and an end to the conflict, the devastating cost of which is borne by children, the elderly, and the sick.”

Pope Leo, who was elected to the position on May 8 following the passing of the late Pope Francis, has repeatedly addressed the situation in Gaza since the early weeks of his papacy.

In his first Sunday message on May 11, the new Pope also called for an immediate ceasefire and the release of all Israeli captives held by Hamas.
