Hamas-U.S. direct talks revealed: Details on Aidan Alexander release
While Hamas announced in recent days that it had engaged in direct talks with the U.S. government and reached an agreement to release Aidan Alexander, a dual U.S.-Israeli citizen and military captive, a senior Palestinian resistance leader disclosed details of these negotiations last night.
The unnamed resistance leader, speaking to Al Mayadeen, stated that direct negotiations between Hamas and the U.S. government began in February between Adam Boehler, Donald Trump’s representative for hostage affairs, and several figures close to Hamas. The talks were facilitated by Bashar al-Masri, a Palestinian businessman and friend of Boehler.
He added that the negotiations at the time focused on Hamas’s approach and vision, how to persuade the movement to release Aidan Alexander, the dual U.S.-Israeli citizen captive, and Hamas’s perspective on Washington’s role and its vision for ending the war in the Gaza Strip.
According to the source, following these talks, a meeting was arranged between Boehler and Hamas leaders, including Osama Hamdan, Taher al-Nono, and Bassem Naim. Another meeting followed between Boehler and Khalil al-Hayya, head of the Palestinian negotiating delegation, with Bashar al-Masri present.
The Palestinian leader emphasized that Washington demanded Aidan Alexander’s release in exchange for pressuring the Israeli regime to halt the war, but Hamas insisted on the release of 250 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the dual U.S.-Israeli citizen. Trump sought to finalize this agreement before his annual speech, but Zionist interference and attacks against Boehler derailed the deal.
The resistance leader noted that the Israeli regime refused to cooperate with any outcomes of these negotiations. Then, in late April, communication between Hamas and the U.S. government resumed, and Bashara Bahbah, a Palestinian-American citizen from Jerusalem, entered the Hamas-U.S. negotiation line after receiving official authorization from Washington to start talks with the movement, which led to Aidan Alexander’s release.
According to the Palestinian leader, Qatar and Egypt, as mediators, encouraged Hamas to accept the U.S. proposal, and in return, Washington committed to playing an active role in ending the war.
The source stated that a stable and active communication channel exists between Hamas and the U.S. government.
Two days ago, in an unexpected development, a direct agreement was reached between the U.S. and Hamas for the release of Aidan Alexander, the dual U.S.-Israeli citizen captive, an event that caught Zionists off guard and, according to Hebrew circles, placed Israel in a position of weakness.
Hamas stated in this regard: “The return of Aidan Alexander is the result of serious negotiations with the U.S. and the efforts of mediators, not a result of Zionist aggression or the illusion of military pressure. Netanyahu deceives and lies to Israelis; he failed to free captives through aggression. Aidan Alexander’s return confirms that serious negotiations and prisoner exchange agreements are the only way to secure the return of Israeli captives and stop the war.”
